Vacuuming With a Robot Hoover is the Best Hands-Off Model We've Tested

This high-end Eufy bot is the most hands-off model we've tried so far. It vacuums, mops, and self-empties its bin and washes and dries mop pads without you having to do anything.

It's not equipped with the latest cleaning techniques and a bigger docking station, but provides stellar performance for less than half the cost of premium robot vacuums. It has a compact design and is able to reach under furniture.

Vacuuming

A robot vacuum is an easy and quick method of keeping your floors clean. Many of the robots we've picked are built to run without the involvement of you and you can set them up to clean your floors while you're out or start an appointment from your phone. But, you should select a model that has superior navigation and obstacle detection to ensure it will not be stuck on the stairs or underneath furniture.

It is essential to choose a robot vacuum that can effectively and efficiently clean all kinds of flooring. Find a robot that has a large dust bin that will hold a large amount of dirt between emptyings, and a nozzle which does not lose suction when it rotates.

Most robots require little to no maintenance, other than taking out tangled fur from the rotating brush after every cleaning session (and wiping its sensors or camera as needed) and regularly emptying the bin or using a robot's self-emptying base. If you follow these easy maintenance steps, your robot vacuum should last as long as regular vacuums and will keep your home clean for longer.

While robot mops are generally less flexible than their vacuum counterparts they do have the ability to suck up spills and puddles while they're working. The iLife V3s Pro is an example of such a device, which is a good option for those who have wood floors or a mix of rugs and carpets. It's quiet and has excellent navigation capabilities that have helped it overcome obstacles during testing, and the charging dock doubles as a trash can.

Choose a robot vacuum cleaner that is able to mop at the same time. Karcher's RCV 5 does this, and it also comes with other features that are beneficial including live cameras that broadcasts a grainy picture to your app, so you can monitor your pet or children, as well as remote controls that are easily programable. The navigation might not be as efficient as some of the other models on this list but its 500ml trash bin is large and doesn't require frequent emptying.

Mopping

Robots that vacuum and mop are a relatively new addition to the market. These machines are more expensive and require an additional tank of water than standalone robots. However, they could be worth the extra cost for those who have staining that is difficult to clean or pets.

Some of the best robots can clean floors and carpets as well as vacuuming. There are many brands that offer robots capable of doing both extremely efficiently. The Combo J9+, for example, is among the top mopping robots we've tested and uses an impressively large dock that can accommodate up to 60 days worth of debris. This is an enormous improvement over the Qrevo Pro which ran out water after only mopping 30 days worth of dirt during our tests.

The Tapo RV30 plus from networking giant TP-Link is a good two-in-one. It's quiet and compact and has a neat, easy-to-clean appearance. In our test rooms, it cleaned the floors thoroughly and precisely - it did particularly well on rugs, but it required multiple runs to fully remove soiled areas from wood. Its LIDAR navigation system works very well, avoiding bumps into furniture or running over power cords.

It's a bit slow on the stairs however, that's to be expected in a compact robot that's designed to tackle obstacles. The only downside is that its mopping pads can be difficult to attach and didn't remain in place during our tests, and it does not have the capability to handle dried-on dirt that makes it more of a vacuum cleaner than a full-fledged mop.

Despite these issues, it's still a solid choice for those who want an easy-to-clean experience that can take care of carpets with equal competence. It offers a decent amount of suction, which helped it to pick up fine dust and pet hair from carpets. A good feature is its automatic carpet recognition, which boosts the power of the vacuuming to tackle dirt that has been embedded. It's also easy to use and has a handy charging dock that automatically empties the dust bin once it's filled, which is a great benefit for flat dwellers.

Cleaning Apps

Most robot vacuums mop, sweeper, and vacuum comes with an application that lets you personalize cleaning routines, select rooms to clean, schedule cleaning sessions, and adjust settings like suction, water level and scrub power. Certain robots have intelligent dirt detection that utilizes maps and previous cleaning data to prioritize dirty areas.

You can also utilize an app to design virtual barriers and no go zones to shield your robot away from dangerous objects, like cords and pet water bowls.  auto vacuum cleaner  have laser navigation sensors that permit you to create virtual barriers while others come with small physical boundaries and barriers that can be put anywhere you want to block your floor space.

The top robot vacuums and mops are smart enough to detect obstacles and navigate around them however there are certain risks to be aware for. The principal brush of a robot may become stuck in long cords or curtains and stop it in its tracks. You can prevent this from happening by clearing the area of any cords and tying up any long curtains before running your robot.

Some robots will automatically update the software that controls their navigation and obstacle avoidance algorithms, which improves performance and reduces wear and tear on the robot's internal components. It is a good idea to periodically check the website of the manufacturer or the app of your robot for firmware updates.

If you live in a large house, choose one that comes with several cleaning modes. The iRobot Roomba 11S Max can sweep and vacuum carpeted and hard floors with different suction settings. It also has the ability to automatically switch to the highest power setting on carpets and boost its scrubbing power with SmartScrub.

If you're looking to remain hands-free, a robot that has an assistant that can be activated by voice is an excellent choice. The iRobot Roomba 980 can be operated by Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant. It has a small self-emptying docking device and a powerful cleaning motor that will leave your floors sparkling.
